Polyethylene is not biodegradable

The addition of additives does not allow polyethylene (PE, HDPE, LDPE) to biodegrade.
They will cause fragmentation, which will generate enormous quantities of microplastics that cannot be removed at a later stage.

This is why these products, known as oxo-degradable, have been banned in Europe (2019/904 SUPD - Single Use Plastic Directive).
